Jack loves to fish!

We're spending our spring break at the cabin this year. This weekend we discovered that Jack is a fisherman at heart. He went out with Grandpa Jay to fish for the first time yesterday and couldn't have been happier. Grandpa would cast and Jack would reel...over and over and over again. He came back beaming with pride because he successfully caught "a big pink worm and a great big leaf".
The other day, Jack was fishing for treasure in the lake. The water level is really low this year, so he found tons of lost items (towels, phones, cans and such) within the reach of his "fishing stick". When he was on the dock, he spotted a little silver fish floating on the water. He started poking it with his stick and said "Wake up fish! Wake up and get on my stick!". Unfortunately, the fish didn't cooperate. I suppose Grandpa will have to give him a few more lessons. :)

Emily and the bad dad episode

Last week Emily and I were in the car listening to NPR. The coverage was focused on the multiple bombings that had taken place in Iraq over the weekend. I didn't realize that Emily had been paying any attention until we got home and reached back to unbuckle her. She looked at me with a very serious face and said "Mom, there's sure a lot of bad dads in the world, huh?" I didn't catch the connection so I asked her what she meant. She replied "Like the lady on the radio said, Mom. She said there are lots of bad dads." Then it hit me. The bombings had taken place in Baghdad. :)

Hannah's joke of the day

Question? What did the Hippopotomus do when he jumped in the pool?

Answer: He kissed a turtle.
